Ehlers seeks a dynamic, highly motivated professional to join our Management Team as a Director of Finance and Accounting. The Director of Finance and Accounting plays a critical role in the financial management and strategic planning efforts of Ehlers Companies and its subsidiaries. Reporting directly to the President and CEO, this position will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal functions, enhancing financial reporting methodologies, and optimizing treasury management strategies. The Director will collaborate closely with senior management, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders to ensure the organization’s financial health and facilitate informed decision-making.

Essential Job Functions

  • Strategic planning, goal setting and initiatives

    • Partner with the President/CEO, management team and Board of Directors to develop, evaluate and advise on long range planning efforts
    • Participate in discussions and assessments of growth initiatives, business development activities and potential new service offerings
    • Take a primary role in corporate merger and acquisition activities, including evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, and integration

  • Financial management and budgeting

    • Develop enhanced financial reporting methodologies that assist managers in making informed decisions
    • Identify and enhance financial metrics to measure Company, subsidiary, business unit and service line performance
    • Work directly with stakeholders, senior management, and the Board of Directors to prepare financial forecasts and annual budgets; analyze for continuous improvements to the budget process
    • Monitor budget-to-actual results and prepare/provide monthly and annual financial reporting to management and the Board of Directors
    • Assist with the design and implementation of employee compensation structures including performance-based incentive compensation and year-end distributions

  • Fiscal function and treasury management

    • Enhance and/or implement policies, procedures, and personnel structure to maximize leverage of resources within the finance function
    • Prepare, maintain, and file all Company financial records, including corporate financial statements and required governmental and regulatory reports
    • Oversee all aspects of the cash management cycle, including accounts payable and receivable
    • Optimize the firm’s cash management strategy, including preparing forecasts, determining appropriate balances and investment of those funds
    • Evaluate and manage banking, benefits administration, and other treasury management relationships
    • Evaluate, advise on, and negotiate Company financing arrangements, including leases and loans, and other contracts, as needed
    • Review and implement accounting and business systems tools and software for accounting, reporting, and billing to streamline finance function and ensure integration with other strategic business systems
    • Develop, implement, and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard the financial assets of the organization

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)

    • Oversee and coordinate annual, independent audit and Company stock valuation
    • Develop and maintain forecasting models for plan repurchase liability
    • Advise ESOP Trustees and Board of Directors on ESOP maintenance strategies

  • Supervision

    • Oversee all members of the Company’s corporate services staff including Accounting, IT administration and technology infrastructure


Requirements

Education:

  • 4-year college degree in Finance, Accounting or related field, CPA preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years finance and accounting experience
  • Management experience with growing organizations, preferred

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Keen analytical abilities and highly developed problem-solving skills to support and enable sound decision-making
  • Able to work, actively contribute and share ideas in a team environment to achieve individual, team and company goals
  • Knowledge and experience in the municipal bond industry is a plus
  • Able to use word processing, spreadsheet software, databases, and the Internet
  • Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, care, and accuracy in completing tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain positive relationships with team, clients, and others
  • Able to demonstrate clear and concise written and oral communication skills

Physical Demands:                                                                  

  • Perform stationary work 90% of the time using a computer and applicable office equipment
