Investment Specialist
Ehlers is currently seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual to join our Investment Team as an Investment Specialist with an opportunity to progress to an Investment or Client Service Advisor. The Investment Specialist supports our Investment and Client Service Advisors across the full spectrum of municipal fixed income investments including supporting our trading desk, portfolio analysis, fixed income investment analysis, and client service support.
The successful candidate will benefit from direct one-on-one mentorship with our Senior Investment and Client Service Advisors to gain the technical expertise, fixed income market knowledge, client service skills, and business development aptitude. This position will have the opportunity to progress to either an Investment Advisor or Client Service Advisor role depending on interest, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The primary client focus for this position includes Minnesota cities, counties, townships, school districts, and related governmental agencies.

Essential Job Functions

Advisor Support
Support the Investment and Client Service Advisors in maintaining positive working relationships with local government investment clients and investment providers.
Support Client Service Advisors with client account requests including onboarding, new account setups, move money requests, change of signer requests, account overdrafts, reinvestment requests, and cash flow forecasting.
Support Investment Advisors in managing segmented client relationships, portfolio analysis, business development, and market analysis.
Assist Client Service Advisors in completion of client RFPs for banking services.
Leverage Ehlers’ CRM to track annual portfolio reviews, reinvestments, client interactions, and business development. -
Research & Training
Research new government legislation and financial periodicals to gather and analyze financial statements for industry, regulatory and economic information.
Evaluate governmental accounting information to identify investable assets
Attend conferences, seminars, and other training to stay current with all aspects of the position
Perform other duties as required to fulfill the mission of the company
Requirements
Physical Demands:
- Perform stationary work 90% of the time using a computer and applicable office equipment.
- Move about inside the office 10% of the time to access files, office equipment and communicate with colleagues.
Credentials, Licenses or Designation:
- Ability to obtain Series 65 (Investment Advisor) registration within twelve (12) months of hire, required
Education:
- Post-secondary education in Public Administration, Business, Economics, Math, etc. or equivalent work experience, required
Experience:
- 0 – 3 years’ experience or exposure to fixed income markets, client relationship management, investment advisory, government finance or accounting, banking or treasury management, business sales & marketing, or public administration
- Other helpful but not required experience includes investment advisory experience with Series 7 and 66 registration, experience with Bloomberg, or SS&C product suite
Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to learn the fundamentals of governmental accounting and investment concepts and principles
- Ability to learn the municipal bond market, fixed income securities, bond issuance process, debt capital market participants, fixed income portfolio & market analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent PC skills using the Microsoft Office suite, CRMs, and database programs
- Exceptional project management skills, including attention to detail and accuracy
