Ehlers Announces New Hires and Positions For Growth

Ehlers Companies announced several new hires today, positioning the firm for growth and continued market leadership.   The most recent additions include:

Joe Murray, CIPMA – Senior Municipal Advisor

Joe Murray joined Ehlers earlier this month as a Senior Municipal Advisor for Wisconsin.  He brings more than three decades of local government management and municipal advisory experience to his role with the firm.  Before joining Ehlers, Joe spent more than 11 years as an advisor with Springsted, now Baker Tilly. Prior to that, he worked for municipalities in Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri, Kansas and Virginia. Murray received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University and his Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Kansas.

“The combination of Joe’s first-hand experience managing local government and his outstanding reputation as a pragmatic and innovative Municipal Advisor makes him a perfect fit for Ehlers,” stated Ehlers Wisconsin Principal and Senior Municipal Advisor, Todd Taves. “We’re excited to have Joe on our Wisconsin team and I’m certain our clients will find him to be a valued partner in helping them achieve their financial goals.”

Sam Mahn – Finance Director & Controller

Sam Mahn was recently named Ehlers Companies Finance Director & Controller, where he will oversee the financial management, forecasting and strategic planning for the organization.

Ehlers Companies President Jeff Eaton was enthusiastic about Mahn’s selection for the role.  “We considered more than two dozen candidates for this position,” Eaton said.  “Sam stood out because of his proven track record of improving business process and generating tangible results quickly.  His performance, along with his exceptional communication skills and collaborative work style made him the top choice for our search committee.”

Mahn joins Ehlers with more than 13 years’ experience in finance management for companies including Marathon Petroleum Corporation and Wand Corporation.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from St. Thomas University.

Keith Dahl – Financial Specialist

Keith Dahl joined Ehlers as a Financial Specialist in April. He comes to the firm after spending four years in community and economic development roles for the cities of Lino Lakes and Columbia Heights, Minnesota.  Keith was most recently the Community Development Manager for Columbia Heights, where he implemented projects like the Grand Central Flats to achieve that city’s vision.  The combination of Dahl’s passion for community development and his financial acumen made him a strong addition to Ehlers’ team serving Minnesota cities.  “We knew almost immediately upon meeting with Keith that he was a tremendous fit for Ehlers, our Team and the needs of our clients,” said Brian Reilly, firm Principal and Senior Municipal Advisor. “Keith has an extremely high aptitude at this stage of his career, and his time spent in the public sector has put him in tune with the needs of the communities we serve.  We look forward to sharing his energy and deep commitment with clients across Minnesota.”

Dahl earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Environmental Architecture and Landscape Design from the University of North Dakota.

Joshua Low – Financial Specialist

Joshua Low is the most recent addition to Ehlers’ municipal advisory team, bringing nearly 15 years of public sector finance, policy and economic development experience to his position as a Financial Specialist with the firm’s Minnesota team that focuses on western Wisconsin municipalities.  He most recently served as a Senior Analyst for the City and County of San Francisco’s Capital Planning Program.

In hiring Low, Brian Reilly was impressed with Josh’s qualifications and the unique insights he could provide to Ehlers’ clients based on his experiences in California.  “Josh brings a depth of experience and knowledge from his prior work that will be invaluable in helping our clients achieve their long-term financial objectives.  We’re very excited to have Josh bolster our already strong presence in western Wisconsin.”

Josh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from San Diego State University and a Master of Public Policy, Housing and Community Development from the University of California Los Angeles.

The expansion of Ehlers’ professional staff underscores the company’s commitment to deliver independent and fully-integrated municipal advisory services at a time of market disruption caused by a number of mergers.  “The lines between truly independent advisors, broker-dealers, and general professional service providers have blurred over the last few years,” Eaton stated. “The changing landscape of our market space presents a great opportunity to renew our decades-long commitment to focus solely on public sector clients.  By increasing our professional capacity, we can serve clients more effectively and add bandwidth in our key growth areas.”

Ehlers plans to announce more staff additions later this year.
